“An overhyped game” - Former Indian veteran shares his views on upcoming India vs Pakistan clash in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy
The India vs Pakistan match is scheduled to be held on the 23rd of February, the much-anticipated contest of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
The two greatest teams in the history of limited-overs cricket, India and Pakistan, have had the greatest rivalry in ICC tournaments. Ever since India and Pakistan stopped playing in the bilaterals after the Taj attacks in 2008, the two teams raised the bar of anticipation every time they squared off in the ICC events.
However, across all formats, India has been gaining the upper hand over their neighbouring giants, with the Men in Blue excelling further in recent times. With much anticipation building on the India vs Pakistan clash, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh shares his views on the same.
Singh claimed the India vs Pakistan match to be an ‘overhyped’ affair
Harbhajan Singh, who was once considered the fiercest among Indian players, was often widely known for engaging in controversies with several players. Singh was often the most agitated among Indian players in the encounters against Pakistan.
However, Singh clearly points out that the stats and comparison between the two teams clearly point out and give a clear picture of India’s dominance and Pakistan’s inconsistency in ICC tournaments.
Bhajji added to his claim on the YouTube channel, “When I look at both teams, the difference is very high. India’s team looks too solid. Pakistan’s team appears weak apart from Babar and Rizwan. If we talk about Babar and Rizwan, then apart from them, no other batsman stands out. Their bowling unit is also not in form.”
Harbhajan also pointed out how India has been the finalist of the World Cup as well, while Pakistan lost a recent home series against New Zealand just at the brink of the Champions Trophy. Pakistan would also kick off their 2025 ICC Champions Trophy campaign against New Zealand in Karachi.
India vs Pakistan in 2025 remains a rematch of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final, as the prices of tickets are at an all-time high, though the game might not be as exciting as it seems now, with Harbhajan Singh considering this to be a one-sided game.
