2023 World Cup: Ben Stokes will not Play World Cup 2023, he will continue the ODI retirement and consider surgery for a knee injury: England Test captain Ben Stokes has confirmed that he will not be reversing his decision to retire from ODI cricket. Stokes, who helped England to win the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, said he is “retired” from ODI Internationals.
Ben Stokes will take a break after the fifth and final Ashes Test at Kennington Oval. Stokes got injured during England’s tour of New Zealand at the start of the year, and he has not bowled properly after this Knee injury. He has admitted that he is considering surgery for his knee, but he will make decision after the Ashes 2023.
Stokes said that he still wants to be part of the England team for the next Ashes series in Australia in 2025. “How this series has gone and how close we were, it does make you think when we go to Australia, do we have a better chance than the last few times we’ve been there. Hopefully, it’d be nice to go out to Australia in 2025 and have a good chance of winning.”
Ben Stokes’s decision to continue his ODI retirement is a huge blow to the England Men’s Cricket team and their hopes of defending their World Cup title in India later this year.
Stokes is one of the most talented all-rounders in the world, and his absence from the ODI side will be a big loss for England. However, his decision to focus on Test cricket shows his commitment to the single format.
England is known for their aggressive cricket in all formats, especially in T20 and ODI cricket. England is the current World champion in both ODIs and T20Is, and they were the first team to hold both titles concurrently. It will be challenging for them to defend the title this year.
