2025 ICC Champions Trophy: Pakistan's qualification scenario for semi-final after loss to New Zealand
Pakistan National Cricket Team have put themselves in a spot of bother after their defeat against New Zealand in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The 60-run loss in the match against the Kiwis has surely dented their chances of qualifying for the semi-final.
Pakistan National Cricket Team looked torrid in the match against the New Zealand National Cricket Team. The Mohammad Rizwan-led side failed with bat and ball, which saw them being under pressure right from the start as the Kiwis asserted their authority.
Pakistan opted to field first and the move didn't work in favour of them as they ended up giving 320 runs. Will Young (107) and Tom Latham (118*) slammed brutal centuries, while fifty from Glenn Phillips powered New Zealand to a massive total in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy encounter.
In the chase, no batter from the top looked settled as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Babar Azam slammed a fifty, but it came at a very poor strike rate, which cost the Pakistan National Cricket Team the match. Salman Agha and Khushdil Shah, in the end, looked good, but the target was too much as the hosts got all out for 260.
Pakistan's qualification scenario for semi-final in 2025 ICC Champions Trophy
With the loss, the road to the semi-final for the Pakistan National Cricket Team is now very tough. To qualify for the knockout stage, they now need to win both of their remaining games against the India National Cricket Team and the Bangladesh National Cricket Team.
If they do this, then things will be slightly easier for them. After this, they would be hoping that one of India or Bangladesh lose two of their remaining three games in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
If this happens, the Pakistan National Cricket Team will be ending the league stage of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy with four points. They will finish above one of Bangladesh or India. But if they lose even a single game, they will be out.
