ENGvsIND: 3 Batters who can replace Shubman Gill in India vs England test series following his injury.

ENGvsIND: Team India recently suffered a blow as opener batsman Shubman Gill triggered his shin stress injury in the recently concluded ICC World Test Championship. The cricketer is expected to be out of a couple of test matches against England, starting August 4.

Gill was carrying a shin injury and during the WTC Final the injury troubled him, said a senior BCCI official.

The injury will take about eight to ten weeks of time to completely heal and recover and the cricketer is expected to sit out of the whole test series.

A senior BCCI official also said that the Indian management will not be too desperate to have the services of the youngsters in the last test as India is carrying a couple of other specialist openers in the squad.

Here in this article, we will take a look at three possible cricketers who can replace Shubman Gill in the team following his injury.

The Indian management in England could possibly draft Abhimanyu Easwaran from the reserves. The cricketer hails from Bengal and has been in the selector’s eye for quite some time now.

The selectors might try out a new face to counter the English pace attack and also surprise them.

Easwaran has a fantastic first-class career with over 4000 runs in 64 first-class matches. He averages over 40 and is one of the consistent players in domestic cricket.

Many selectors and cricket pundits reckon Easwaran to be India’s long term test future and is expected to get his test cap soon.

2. KL Rahul:

Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri may bring back KL Rahul to the opening roles after the injury of Shubman Gill. Rahul has been warming the benches in the test squad for a while now.

Back in 2019, owing to his poor form, KL Rahul was dropped from India’s Test squad and Rohit Sharma, who warmed the benches a lot, got his chance to perform.

Virat Kohli still had some faith in the cricketer and backed him in the limited-overs cricket, where he performed outstandingly. Rahul in no time became India’s saviour and took up every possible role apart from bowing.

He got shuffled from opening to number 4 and 5 while a couple of times he kept the wickets for his team.

His recent white-ball form has got his place back in the squad, however, his place in the playing11 is still doubtful.

An injury to Shubman Gill could be a blessing in disguise for Rahul who can be pushed up to open with Rohit Sharma in upcoming India vs England five-match test series.

1. Mayank Agarwal:

Out of all the names mentioned here, Mayank Agarwal is the one who holds the most chances to find his place back in the playing11. Agarwal opens for India and owns that slot for a lot of reasons.

In the last Australia test tour, Agarwal didn’t have a memorable series as he was dropped from the team after a couple of failed games.

His performance in the last New Zealand tour makes his stance even more strong for the opening role. Agarwal had a good series in New Zealand surfaces, which resembles a lot with the English ones.

Moreover, Mayank’s synergy with Rohit Sharma in test cricket is simply unbelievable. Both the cricketers began opening together in the South Africa test series and gave strong starts.

Both the openers scored double centuries in the matches and won games comfortably.
