Being one of the most successful franchises and consistent at the same time, CSK could not manage to reach the playoffs for the first time in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). MS Dhoni-led side believed in retaining the core which consists of experienced batsmen and bowlers. This time the core is on the wrong side of the 30s and CSK has confessed to change the core before IPL 2021.
Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh pulled back from the thirteenth edition of IPL citing personal reasons, pulled CSK backward. Super Kings could not fill the gaps.

Chennai Super Kings bagged the Indian leg spinner at the 2020 IPL Auctions for whopping 6.75 crores. He was the costliest pick from the Indian slot in 2020. With more responsibilities coming up for him after Harbhajan Singh pulled out, Chawla couldn’t convert it to gold.
The senior player was seen warming the bench almost half the tournament. Piyush played seven games and picked just 6 scalps. CSK will release him and might purchase in Auctions at a much lower price. But as of now, he might get released from the side.
Murli Vijay:
He might not be the regular face in T20 cricket in the last few years but the Chennai batsman made his mark in the IPL with CSK and enjoyed glory. However, he made his comeback in 2018 again with CSK.
Vijay got his opportunities to open after Raina pulled back but he could not manage to convert it. The batsman was benched almost the whole season. He got chances in the first 3 games where he scored mere 32 runs with an average strike rate of 74.41.
As Vijay is not in his prime form in the T20 format, CSK might leave him free.
Kedar Jadhav:
The story of his IPL 2020 gets summarized with 62 runs in 66 balls at a strike rate of 93.93. Kedar Jadhav was brought for 7.8 crores in IPL 2018 but the management will be reluctant to keep him for the next seasons.
Jadhav being an all-rounder never bowled in the history of IPL. Also, he was left behind after 8 games due to his poor form.
