IPL 2022: 3 Players Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) might retain in IPL 2022 Mega Auction.
IPL 2022: The now-suspended season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was certainly the worst season for the Shahrukh Khan owned franchise KKR. Despite having all the weapons in the arsenal, KKR could only manage to win two out of seven games they played.
Skipper Eoin Morgan was expected to show a bit more intent but he failed to produce good knocks from his bat in the whole season. It is almost certain that KKR might look for another skipper in the coming season of the IPL if mega auctions take place.
In this article, we will take a look at three players which Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) might want to retain ahead of the Mega Auction 2022.
3 Players Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) might retain in IPL 2022 Mega Auction:
Shubman Gill:
It was expected that the young opener Shubman Gill will have a good season with the bat however it did not happen. Gill is going through a pale patch of his career after starting off well in the Australia series. His England test series was also forgetful and his IPL 2021 stats are not very encouraging.
Although he has shown his calibre in the past and no doubt he is one of the most talented young openers for India, Gill needs to work on his shot selection and his strike rate.
Surely, KKR would want to retain him in the coming auction as he is a bright prospect for India as well as KKR in the future. It might be a possibility that KKR might hand over the captaincy roles to him and make a team around him.
Andre Russell:
The West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell has been an x-factor for KKR. Russell has won the game for franchise single-handedly in the past and possesses a huge ability to destroy the opponent’s bowling attack. He is the most destructive batsman for KKR and it will be fair to say that no target looks big in front of him.
With his added bowling abilities, KKR will surely want to take the services of the all-rounder in the future. Russell is very handy with the ball, especially at the death overs. He remained economical and picked up crucial wickets there for KKR.
Dinesh Karthik:
The Indian wicketkeeper-batsman is certainly one of the best white-ball finishers in the IPL right now. Dinesh Karthik had a roller-coaster ride in the last three seasons. He was brilliant in 2018 and 2019 IPL however he had a lean patch in IPL 2020.
He midway through the IPL 2020 stepped down from the captaincy and cited that he wanted to play with more freedom and wanted to focus more on his batting.
The IPL 2021 was a good season for him having finished the game for KKR. Karthik has the ability to strike from the very ball he faces and has certainly done that for KKR in the past.
It will be a surprise if KKR plans not to retain him ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.
