3 Potential Players who can lead RCB from IPL 2022.

IPL 2022 Mega Auction: The most unexpected event in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) happened last night as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli said goodbye to his leadership role without a single IPL title. It was an unfair finish to the outing of the King, who led his team to several massive wins, however, the most important one, lifting the IPL title, still remains to be achieved.

Virat Kohli and the RCB have ended their IPL 2021 campaign after kneeling down against KKR, last night, by 4 wickets. The franchise will now pack their bags and return back home for their next assignments.

The upcoming IPL 2022 Mega Auction will be of much higher importance for the RCB as they will look to acquire a player who can be their long term solution for the captaincy role. Until, last night, Virat Kohli held the reins, but now he has stepped down from the role and RCB will have to find the perfect player to fulfil the duty.

Kohli’s decision to leave the captaincy roles shook the entire cricket fraternity. Having led RCB for more than seven years, Virat was expected to continue on the leadership roles, however, the international pressure of handling the ODI and Test side may have forced the star Indian cricketer to end his leading role.

He, earlier, also announced that he will be stepping down from India’s T20I responsibilities as he wants to focus more on the long format matches (ODI and Tests). The skipper will step down following the conclusion of the impending ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

It will be interesting to see how RCB goes with a plan whether they want an experienced campaigner or they are good to go with a rookie face and groom for future opportunities.

Though a lot will depend upon RCB’s retention choices, however, here we will try to go as close as possible and will provide you with the most probable choices. The article will take you through the top 3 potential players RCB can target in the IPL 2022 to lead the side.

3 Potential Players who can lead RCB from IPL 2022:

Devdutt Padikkal:

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) can take the world on its toes if they decide to give the captaincy to young Devdutt Padikkal. The southpaw is a dynamic cricketer and has already shown a glimpse of a future Indian star in making.

Lately, the trend has been on-song with the IPL franchise where they are more inclined towards making a young cricketer the skipper of the side and rebuild the entire team around him. It is a valid move, knowing that the young talent can serve the team for at least three years and if he does well he can continue further.

Padikkal has become a mainstay of RCB in his only second season. He outperformed several international stars and has been the most valuable asset for the team.

Though, appointing DDP for the leading role will require a huge heart as the left-handed cricketer is fairly young and hasn’t played countable international matches. Moreover, he just has the experience of two IPL seasons which can be a sign of stress.

It is important to note that Padikkal made his T20I debut in last India’s tour to Sri Lanka where he scored a modest 38 runs from 2 innings.

Definitely, RCB can play the gamble and there will big guns who will be ready to assist him and make him the perfect cricketer for the future of RCB.

Glenn Maxwell:

The Australian all-rounder is no stranger to the captaincy roles as he has led Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2017 and Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League. Though he only played his first-ever season for RCB, the cricketer seemed to have a long-standing synergy with the franchise and its players.

It will be safe to say that Glenn Maxwell was the driving force for RCB in the Vivo IPL 2021. The Australian stepped up on several crunch situations and finished on a high. His contribution to the middle order has been paramount. What AB de Villiers used to do before IPL 2021, is done by Glenn Maxwell in the ongoing season.

RCB can play it out safe by making Maxwell skipper of the team. He can be the one who can lead the side on an immediate basis while keeping the youngsters around and grooming them for the coming seasons.

It may not be a fan favourite move for RCB, however, the cricketer had shown great excitement in joining the franchise and that is reflected in his performances as well and hopefully, he can contribute well if he is given the bigger roles.

KL Rahul:

One door which seems to be wide open for RCB is acquiring KL Rahul once again in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction and handing over the captaincy reins to him.

Having been familiar with the highest order responsibility with Punjab Kings (PBKS) and in a few Indian encounters, KL Rahul will prove to be a great asset for whichever team he plays for.

Lately, he has been doing outrageously well in terms of scoring runs for the team. In the last four IPL editions, Rahul has consistently breached 500 runs mark and is the only cricketer on the plant to achieve this feat in the IPL. In fact, in three of those seasons, he went past 600 runs which is a massive deal.

Though it remains to be seen whether Rahul decides to part ways with Punjab Kings (PBKS) or stick with his team. If the dashing Indian opener goes into the Auction table, he will set the hammer on fire and put several franchises in the bidding wars.

Lately, the news websites have been covering that KL Rahul has shown his wish to play for RCB once again and become Virat Kohli’s successor. Only time will confirm the development as the mega auctions for the IPL 2022 are most probably going to be held in December 2021.
