5 big-budget foreign players who might face a significant drop in their price in the IPL 2025 mega auction

The IPL 2025’s mega auction will be another significant occasion in the history of the Indian Premier League. One of the world’s biggest T20 leagues is known for its grandeur and enduring brilliance, as it has provided a platform for several young players to seek international careers, being inspired by playing alongside veterans.

IPL is famous for another thing, which is its intense financial battles between franchises. Often the most exciting part of the mega auction lists the number of players who are exciting investments to be made for the franchises’ future.

This article focuses on the top 5 players of foreign origin who were bought at prices that cannot even be imagined. There is a high chance that these players will see a significant drop in their prizes.

5 big signings among overseas players in 2024 who might see drop in prizes this year in the mega auction

Mitchel Starc

Undoubtedly the most expensive player in the history of IPL. Earning over 24.75 crores in the auction of 2024, the Kolkata Knight Riders’ historical pick won them the IPL with significant performances in the knockout games. However, despite his efforts, he is not long to be an investment of that much status.

An insane pick of nearly 25 crores seems unlikely for even a pacer of Starc’s merit. Starc earned such a big amount but will be released before the auction for sure and might not even get picked if he does not play convincingly well in the Champions Trophy.

Pat Cummins

The World Cup-winning skipper of Australia, Cummins, was picked into the IPL by SRH owner Kavya Maran for a whopping amount of 20.50 crores. He was brought in not only as a bowler but also with the sights of a great skipper.

Cummins took command of a glorious team with many standout players and led them from the front to an IPL final, though they faced defeat to KKR. Cummins was also their best bowler behind Natarajan and also served whenever in need of a batting role.

Cummins might not be retained at such a whopping price, yet the Sunrisers might look to use their Match Retention cards for the Aussie quick.

Cameron Green

Green was another surprise pick first at a whopping 17.5 crores over two seasons for both Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers later in 2024. The big Australian all-rounder performed exceptionally well for the Indians; however, he was a big flop for the Challengers.

Green was not a wise pick, as he failed to meet the demands, and his retention does not seem likely. Even if the Challengers look to see their future in the big Aussie all-rounder, they might look to acquire him at quite a lower price.

Sam Curran

The Punjab Kings might be parting ways with Shikhar Dhawan, and Curran can be their replacement skipper if their team is not much reshaped. However, 18.5 crores is way too much for the English all-rounder. Curran, who was majorly thought in both departments, was seen underperforming with both the bat and ball.

A few essential innings with the bat and a few performances with the ball as well make him a crucial player in the mega auction; however, he will surely see a drop in rates and craze for the overseas all-rounder.

Daryl Mitchell

New Zealand’s star boy in the World Cup 2023 earned him a very high status in the IPL 2024 mini-auction, with CSK acquiring the wrong investment in years, at 14 crores. Mitchell scored less than 320 runs in 13 games played by him for the men in yellow shirts.

The Gaikwad-led side does not stand the chance of retaining their flop from 2024; however, there are likely no chances that even the Kiwi batter will be bought in by any franchise after his least chances of recovery of form from the disastrous T20 World Cup campaign in the USA. So high chances are that Mitchell might go down from being one of the biggest signings last year to an unsold player in the very next edition.
