5 IPL Teams That No Longer Exist | Seasons Played & Reasons for Elimination
In the very first season of IPL in 2008, there were eight teams who were participating in the Indian Premier League. As they grew in popularity two more teams were introduced later on. But as people don't know there are a few more teams that play IPL, but due to some reason these teams are Eliminated from the Indian Premier League. From IPL Season 1 to Season 18, there are a total of 15 teams that have played IPL till now. But in IPL 2025 only 10 teams were left, and the remaining 5 teams got eliminated from the IPL.
In years 2016 and 2017 when Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals faced a two-year ban from the Indian Premier League, 2 more teams were introduced in their place. At present IPL is a 10-team tournament with the new two teams of Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League.

Deccan Chargers -
Deccan Chargers were one of the teams from the first season of IPL. Deccan Chargers was also of winning team of IPL season 2009. This team was owned by Chronicle HoldingsLTD Adam, After the 2012 season, the Deccan Chargers franchise was banned from IPL, This team was one of the best teams at that time but due to breaking governing council contract terms IPL decided to ban this team from IPL for a lifetime, many time DC plan to come back but due to breaking contract teams of IPL, DC is no longer exits in IPL. later IPL decided to put Deccan Chargers in the 2012 auction.
Kochi Tuskers Kerala -
Kochi Tuskers Kerala was launched in the 2011 edition and finished at eighth place on the points table. And they also failed to pay the 10 percent bank guarantee which is a part of the team fee that needs to be paid at the start of the season. On September 19, 2011, the BCCI terminated the franchise from the Indian Premier League for upcoming seasons. The players of Kochi Tuskers Kerala were available in the mini auction for 2the 012 season.
Pune Warriors India -
Pune Warriors India is also one of the IPL teams. this team was started in 2011 season of IPL and performed very well. This IPl team was owned by Sahara Group Sports Limited, Yuvraj Singh Top Indian player was appointed as the captain of the Pune Warriors India at that time. In 3 seasons of IPL Pune Warriors India only won 12 matches. They also had financial issues as well in October 2013, and due to those reasons, BCCI finally decided to terminate the franchise from IPL.
Gujarat Lions -
Gujarat Lions were the team in place of CSK and RR in IPL 2016. Gujarat topped the points table in their first season with 9 wins. But unfortunately, they were beaten by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the knockouts. Gujarat Lions did not get any extension when RR and CSK returned after the suspension.
Rising Pune Super Giants -
Rising Pune Super Giants was one of the top teams in IPL history, later CSK replaced Rising Pune Super Giants in IPL. The team was owned by Sanjiv Goenka. RPS was not well performed in their maiden season where they finished at 7th position in the points table. And very next season they reached the final and lost to Mumbai Indians by 1 run in a thrilling contest.
