IPL 2022 Mega Auction: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has recently laid up the foundation stone for the upcoming Indian Premier League season fifteen after announcing the two new IPL franchises. With two new teams, the mega auctions are inevitable.

It is learnt that the retention process for the existing eight franchises have already begun and will run until November 30th. The teams are allowed to retain a maximum of four players from their previous squad while the new teams will be permitted to make three special picks before the auction of the IPL 2022.

Barring a few retained players and players joining new franchises under ‘special pick policy’ all the other cricketers will head to the auction table to get their new franchise thereby putting teams under bidding war.

In the previous IPL 2021 auction, several surprise players got massive money for their services for just one season. This time around, with the auction being extended to 10 teams, it will get even more interesting.

With BCCI giving just four retentions, the teams will be forced to throw their big players into the auction table and they will have to do a lot of work to get them back from under the hammer.

This article will take you through the top 5 players who can be the most expensive players in the coming IPL 2022 Mega Auction by drawing a massive sum from their new franchise.

David Warner:

The Australian dashing cricketer David Warner has been engaged with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for several years, however, in the recent IPL season, everything didn’t look to be fine between the cricketer and franchise. Warner was sacked from the captaincy after a few poor matches and was eventually dropped from the playing11 owing to his poor form.

Warner is, no doubt, one of the most accomplished batsmen in the current circuit. The explosive opener has been sensational with 5449 runs from 150 IPL matches. The Southpaw scores with a stately average of 41.59 and for consecutive seven seasons he has scored over 500 runs in the IPL.

With two new teams joining, they will require an experienced skipper for the side and one could find no one better than David Warner. It is important to note that Warner took SRH to its only IPL title back in 2016.

The Aussie star cricketer can go huge in terms of money as he has all the traits of becoming the most expensive cricketer of the IPL 2022 Auction.

Following Shreyas Iyer’s shoulder injury, Delhi Capitals (DC) announced a new stand-in skipper in Rishabh Pant after Iyer was ruled out of the entire tournament in IPL 2021. However, the IPL 2021 was midway suspended due to an increase in the covid cases and later the cash league restarted in September 202 and by then Sreyas Iyer had recuperated well. As per the general principle, Shreyas Iyer should be given back his captaincy role after his return but, that didn’t happen as Pant was doing a great job.

It is learnt that Iyer is more or less interested in the captaincy role and will be looking out for better opportunities with new teams. If he goes out to the auction table, Iyer will attract big prospect bidders owing to his brilliant captaincy with Delhi Capitals (DC) and his fantastic batting records. As per the reports available, Iyer is most likely to go with new franchises as their skipper.

KL Rahul:

Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper KL Rahul has also shown signs of him leaving the Punjab based franchise. In spite of having an exceptional run with his bat for PBKS, KL Rahul seems to have run out of patience following the poor run of the franchise over these years.

Rahul has been the lone warrior of the side in the last two years where he emerged as the top run grosser for the team but wasn’t able to get the adequate cushion from the other players.

The reports, even before the end of the IPL 2021, indicated KL Rahul’s quit from Punjab Kings as he is not quite pleased with the performance. If all the rumours and reports go correct, KL Rahul will be one of the batters who will fetch an exceptionally high playing deal in the coming mega auction 2022.

Hardik Pandya:

Indian colourful all-rounder Hardik Pandya is almost certain to miss out on Mumbai Indians (MI) retention list. The five-time champions will have their retentions fixed with skipper Rohit Sharma, pacer Jasprit Bumrah, batter Suryakumar Yadav and all-rounder Kieron Pollard.

The Baroda cricketer hasn’t been in his best touch in the recent two years due to his recurring niggles and injuries. He sustained a back injury in 2019 and since then he hasn’t been able to bowl to his prime figures, even his batting stats are not encouraging either.

Despite not getting retained by Mumbai, Hardik is likely to get a whopping contract with some other franchises. It is foreseen that Ahmedabad based new IPL franchise will be keen on the services of Hardik Pandya.

Being an all-rounder in the IPL is a blessing, as the recent trend shows how extensively the franchise goes after the all-rounders. In the last IPL season, Chris Morris went for a massive INR 16.25 Crores, Kyle Jamieson went for INR 15 Crores and there are several other players who bagged a handsome sum with their all-rounder abilities.

Glenn Maxwell:

Glenn Maxwell

Following years of disappointment, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell found the right franchise for him. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) came at the right time to revive Glenn Maxwell’s IPL career.

Maxwell played a crucial role for RCB in IPL 2021. He played several match-saving knocks and remained the top run-scorer for RCB in the season. In spite of scoring tons of runs, it won’t be easy for the right-hander to retain his place in the team with a big auction lined up ahead.

Owing to his brilliant IPL season, Maxwell is expected to fetch good IPL bids in the coming auction as well and can be one of the highest played IPL players in the IPL 2022.
