India’s Participation in Asia Cup 2023 Hangs in the Balance: Anurag Thakur says BCCI to Make the Final Call on Travel to Pakistan

India’s Participation in Asia Cup 2023 Hangs in the Balance: Anurag Thakur says BCCI to Make the Final Call on Travel to Pakistan: Indian sports minister, Anurag Thakur, on his way to Bhnadura, stopped near Nagpur to join a press meet on Sunday. Upon asking about India’s participation at the Asia Cup 2023 hosted by Pakistan, he responded by saying,  “Let the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) take a call on the Indian team’s participation in Asia Cup first, then only the sports ministry and home ministry will decide”

Changing his statement from October last year where Thakur famously remarked that the home ministry has the final say on whether or not Team India travels to Pakistan for the Asia Cup.

The debate has been going around for some time after the Pakistan Cricket Board threatened to pull out of the ODI World Cup 2023 if it is hosted in India. The final call will be made by BCCI chief, Jay Shah, who earlier claimed that the Asia Cup will be shifted out of Pakistan.

The debate fired up recently after spin guru Harbhajan Singh said India shouldn’t go to Pakistan for the Asia Cup in 2023. He claims that numerous potential downsides must be weighed before any choice can be made.

The tension between the two neighbouring countries has been a cause of concern for cricket fans for a long time now. It will be intense to see what decision the BCCI and Indian ministry take for the overall well-being of the game and the country.

Meanwhile, the sports minister revealed several schemes concerning boosting India’s sportsmanship. He said that the Indian government is all set to open 1000 khelo centres across the country by August 15. The goal is to set up at least one centre in every district. He went on to say that 945 centres have already been sanctioned and the Indian government is giving all it takes to build and promote athletes from the grassroots level.
