TATA IPL 2023: Mike Hesson’s Best View on Impact Player Rule. Impact Players for RCB.

The TATA IPL 2023 has the "Impact Player" Rule. What does Mike Hesson have to say about it? Here is a look.

Mike Hesson has finally spoken on the impact player rule in the TATA IPL 2023. Mike is the “Director of Cricket Operations” at Royal Challengers Bangalore for the TATA IPL 2023. Sanjay Bangar has also spoken about this interesting rule. Sanjay Bangar is the batting consultant and head coach of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, this season. Both the members of the management have an interesting opinion on this amazing rule. Here is an in-depth look at the same:

Mike Hesson on Impact Player Rule in TATA IPL 2023:

Mike Hesson, the head coach of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, released a video on the official Instagram page where he was seen speaking about the impact player rule. He also emphasized the fact that the rule was known earlier to the teams, and it influenced their strategies during the auction. “So actually, there is some strategy involved in it. I quite like it. I actually thought it brought a little intrigue. You could introduce the player anytime. So whether the batter is being dismissed or not. It was a nice development.”, is what Hesson said.

“It’s a substitute rule. So you name at the toss whether you have a batting eleven which will obviously be stronger. And if you bat first you will swap out a batter and bring in an extra bowler so vice versa and the other way around. So after the toss, you give them your batting 11 and bowling 11. So it’s not an impact rule now it’s a substitute rule.”, Hesson further added.

Sanjay Bangar on Impact Player Rule in TATA IPL 2023:

Sanjay Bangar has referred to this rule as a “playing 12” rule. He narrowed the rule down to simple layman’s language for the viewers. Sanjay said, “I believe it is 12 playing 12. Most teams want a specialist to occupy their batting slot or their bowling slot so. It’s gonna be slightly tougher for players who want to contribute in both departments or players who are capable of playing in both departments. Especially lower down the order at number seven. They may not be utilized that much as teams may go to specialist batters or a specialist bowler.”

Possible Impact Players for Royal Challengers Bangalore:

Based on the views of Sanjay Bangar and Mike Hesson we can figure out a few options for the Royal Challengers Bangalore to be used as impact players.

Rajat Patidar:

Rajat Patidar can be used as the impact player for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Sanjay Bangar said, that a pure batter or a pure bowler can be an impact player. One such player is Rajat. He was very impressive in TATA IPL 2022. His 100 in the qualifier against the Lucknow Super Giants is one for the ages. The Royal Challengers can bring him on if they are batting in the second innings and need an extra batter. They can ask an Indian bowler like Siraj to take a rest in that case.

Finn Allen:

Finn Allen can also be used as an impact player. He is another pure batter. With Dinesh Kartik being in the team, Allen will only have to do the batting job as Karthik will keep wickets. The Royal Challengers Bangalore can use him in place of any of the foreign bowlers if they are chasing a big total. Finn Allen can implement the Bazzball strategy and can help RCB improve its performance in the powerplay.
