ICC ODI Qualifiers: ICC bans USA’s Ali Khan for two games

ICC ODI Qualifiers: The ICC ODI Qualifiers are currently taking place. The playoff round has been done and dusted and two teams USA and UAE are through to the main qualifiers. The ODI qualifiers will take place in June and July 2023 in Zimbabwe.

Along with USA and UAE, West Indies, Netherlands, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Scotland, Oman and Nepal and one among Ireland and South Africa will play in the qualifiers.

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will take place in India later this year. The ICC announced an ODI Super League after the last World Cup and those teams which will secure the top 8 positions in the points table will qualify directly for the World Cup.

The remaining five teams will play and qualifier round along with associate nations to book their berth for the marquee tournament. So far India, Australia, Afghanistan, New Zealand, Pakistan, England and Bangladesh have found themselves in charts of direct qualification.

ICC ODI Qualifiers: ICC bans USA’s Ali Khan for two games for breaching the code of conduct

In what has been the latest development, International Cricket Council (ICC) has banned United States of America (USA) fast bowler Ali Khan for the two games. The lanky pacer breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.

According to this article, players can face consequences for using “language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.”

Ali Khan breached the code of conduct during the USA’s game against Jersey in the ICC ODI qualifiers playoffs match when he gave a send-off to batters after he picked the 9th and 10th wicket. He got engaged in a heated spat with the opposition batters. He was fined 15% of his match fees and was given 1 demerit point as well.

However, the 1 demerit point didn’t go well with him as it added to his 3 early demerit points, which he received earlier during the qualifiers of the T20 World Cup 2022. His 4 demerit points in total paved the way for his suspension from two games.

Ali Khan notably performed extremely well with the ball in the game against Jersey. He returned with the figures of 7/32 and etched his name in the record books. His extraordinary bowling figures are the best ever by a fast bowler of an associate nation in the ODIs.
