Who doesn’t fancy a guardian in one’s life, one who can stop things from happening before they go wrong? Well fielders in cricket are like those guardians who make sure the game stays under control. They dive, toss around and chase the ball in order to take catches or prevent the opposite team from scoring runs. Every player in the team, whether he is a batsman or a bowler, has to field. Like they say, a run saved is equal to a run made! Times when fielders were lax on the field have costed their teams dearly.
Catches win matches is a famous quote we hear and in last year’s IPL 2019, we saw some jaw dropping catches being taken by players, fresh off our memory, the list goes like this.
- KIERON POLLARD (catch of the season award) MI vs CSK, MATCH 15
- KL RAHUL ( a perfect leap to dismiss Steve Smith) KXIP vs RR, MATCH 4
- FAF DU PLESSIS (split of a second decision making) CSK vs RCB, MATCH 39
- DINESH KARTHIK ( a wicketkeeper covering almost 30mts backwards to take the catch) KKR vs MI, MATCH 56
- COLIN INGRAM (converting Chris Gayle’s sixer into a dismissal) DC vs KXIP, MATCH 37
Agile on the field, there are players who seem to be able to stop any ball that’s coming their way. Ravindra Jadeja, Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Hardik Pandya, Glenn Maxwell, Suresh Raina, Ben Stokes – there seems to be a plethora of such talent in every team, where they make a real difference to their side.
Let’s analyse the teams based on the fielding prowess they possess.
