Jofra Archer: We are approaching the business end of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 and injuries are still continuing to haunt franchises. Some key players have been ruled out of the tournament which has forced team management to go back to the drawing board and look at the permutations and combinations once again. The 16th edition of the tournament is heading towards the exciting end with all the ten teams in contention. It remains to be seen who will be the four teams to advance to the playoffs.
MI vs RCB: Jofra Archer gets ruled out of the IPL 2023
In what has been the latest development, five-time champions Mumbai Indians have suffered a major blow as premium pacer Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the IPL 2023 with an elbow injury.
Jofra Archer, who missed last season due to injury, struggled with his fitness in the ongoing 16th edition of the league. The English pacer wasn’t a regular feature in the playing XI as his elbow kept troubling him throughout the tournament. He played just 5 games for the team this season ans didn’t look in best of his rhythm.
Archer went to Belgium for minor surgery during the mid-season as confirmed by head coach Mark Boucher and after that, he played a games on trot. But now ahead of the MI’s clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday (9th May), he has been deemed unfit by the team management to take further part in the tournament.
Releasing the official statement, Mumbai Indians revealed that Jorfra Archer will travel back to England to focus on his rehabilitation. His injury was continuously monitored by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and it is assumed that they didn’t give him the green signal to take part in the rest of the games.

Jofra Archer’s absence will leave a massive void in Mumbai Indians’ lineup considering their inexperienced bowling attack, which has leaked runs at crucial junctures. With the tournament moving towards its business end and five-time Champions well in contention for the playoffs, the pacer would’ve proved to be a vital cog for the team.
His unavailability surely would hamper MI’s confidence. Although he didn’t live up to the expectations but his presence in the team was something the opposition would’ve thought of ahead of the game against them. In 5 games, Jofra Archer took 2 wickets at an economy of 9.50.
MI vs RCB: Chris Jordan replaces Jofra Archer in the Mumbai Indians squad for IPL 2023
Jofra Archer’s injury has opened up the gates for his English teammate to be part of the IPL once again. Mumbai Indians have roped in Chris Jordan as a replacement player for the remainder of the league. The speedster joined the team a few days back and has been training well with the team.
Chris Jordan, who has played for Punjab Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings, has played 28 games in the league and has picked 27 wickets at an average and economy of 30.85 and 9.32 respectively. MI, who are placed at the 8th spot on the points table with 10 points, would be hoping for him to change their fortunes and strengthen their lineup.
