Jason Roy will negotiate his central contract with England Cricket Board(ECB) as he was signing a massive deal with Los Angeles Knight Riders for the Major League Cricket(MLC) in the USA, which will start later in this summer.
Reece Topley is also expected to take the MLC contract and give up his central contact, but he still needs to sign the contract due to his Shoulder Injury, which he had last month during IPL 2023.
England Cricket Board on Roy’s termination of the central contract:
ECB said, “England’s White Ball cricketer, Jason Roy had informed us that He wants to play in the MLC, which will happen in the USA this summer. The Board has agreed on his decisions but said he has to give up his ECB incremental Contract. We want to clarify that He wasn’t out of the team and is committed to playing cricket for England.”
ECB also wants to revise the Central contract from 2023-24 to match the craze of Franchise cricket in the upcoming time.
The Inaugural Season of Major League Cricket(MLC) may end with the end matches of the T20 Blast and Starting matches of the Hundred, and MLC will expand in more in the future, which will clash with the Hundred.
ECB Clarifies that they will give No Objection Certificates (NOCs), allowing English players to play in league cricket. If players try to avoid their county matches to play league cricket, ECB will not negotiate with them regarding the central contract.
Roy opens up on terminating ECB’s Contract:
Many Speculation is going on regarding Jason Roy’s decision to terminate the central increment contract. Roy, through his social media handle, said, “Following Speculation spreading in the last 24 hours, I want to clarify that I will ‘never walk away’ from England.”
He also said, “Representing my Country will always be the proudest moment for me as a professional cricketer. I want to play more cricket for England for many years, which will always be my priority.”
He told me about the conversation between him and ECB “I and ECB had a supportive conversation regarding Major Cricket League. They were happy with me playing competitive cricket as long as They(ECB) didn’t have to pay me the remainder of the Contractual year.”
Jason Roy tells why he wants to take the MLC contract:
Roy said, “As A White Ball format cricketer with no central contract so I want to take the opportunity to play competitive cricket as, currently, there is no schedule conflicting with England.”
“My Priority is England Cricket, especially since the ODI world cup is coming, and for me, or any player, it is the greatest honor to play for their county on such a level.”
