With its fifth title win, CSK has now equalled Mumbai Indians’ record for five IPL titles.
Earlier in the game, Gujarat Titans were invited to bat first by CSK and the batting side posted a massive total of 214 runs in 20 overs. Young Sai Sudharsan played a magnificent innings of 96 runs in 47 deliveries. While opener Wriddhiman Saha contributed with a half-century, Shubman Gill was restricted to a low score of 39 runs.
The rain gods were quiet until GT’s innings, however, they actively took part in delaying the IPL 2023 Final proceedings following the first innings. A significant delay was caused at the start of CSK’s innings and eventually, the game was reduced to 15 overs and CSK were given a revised total of 171 runs.
Chennai had small contributions from every batter. The opening partnership stitched 74 runs before the first dismissal of Ruturaj Gaikwad. Gujarat bowlers then removed dangerous-looking Devon Conway in the same over and pushed CSK in the backfoot. Conway scored 47 runs in 25 deliveries.
The innings was then brought back into the track by Shivam Dube and Ajinkya Rahane, who added another 39 runs to the CSK total. However, the two aforementioned batters were also sent back after their brief stay in the middle. Eventually, it all boiled down to 10 runs in the final two deliveries of the innings bowled by Mohit Sharma.
Ravindra Jadeja smoked a six in the penultimate delivery and a four to end the two-month-long job for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and won the game by 5 wickets. With the win against GT, CSK also lifted its fifth IPL title.
