IND vs WI: Records broken by Yashasvi Jaiswal during his mammoth 143* runs knock on Day 2 against West Indies at Dominica

India and West Indies are currently locking horns with each other in the first match of the two-match series at Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica. The Rohit Sharma-led side lost the toss and was asked to field first. However, it came as a blessing in disguise for them as they bowled superbly.

On account of the five-wicket haul by R Ashwin, India bundled out West Indies for just 150 runs and after that, it has been all about Yashasvi Jaiswal. The debutant has batted exceptionally well and has set the stage on fire in the ongoing game at Dominica.

Yashasvi Jaiswal took time to get going but after he scored his first boundary to open his account, he didn’t look back. He made a mockery of West Indies bowlers and made them look clueless. He scored a magnificent century on his debut and continued batting even after that with the same grit, commitment and focus.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was unbeaten at 143 runs off 350 balls before umpires called stumps on Day 2. His marathon knock saw him breaking and creating quite a few records. The Southpaw became only the 17th player from India and only the third opener to score a century on his Test debut.

Yashasvi Jaiswal also became the seventh India batter to hit an overseas century on his Test debut and also now has the highest number of runs on his Test debut at an overseas venue, surpassing Sourav Ganguly’s tally of 131 runs.

The southpaw became only the third batter after Rohit Sharma (177) and Prithvi Shaw (134) to score a century on his Test debut against West Indies. Yashasvi Jaiswal, 21, became the fourth-youngest Indian batter to score a century on his Test debut.

The Indian opener also set a new record for the most balls faced by an Indian on Test debut. He faced a remarkable 350 balls, surpassing Mohammad Azharuddin’s previous record of 322 balls. With the way he’s going, the tally of balls is only going to increase.
