ICC last updated the ICC Men’s ODI Team Standings on 5th September after India vs Nepal where India got 2 more points and strengthened their 3rd spot.
Australia are on a tour of South Africa for a 5-match ODI series ahead of World Cup 2023 aiming a good preparation. The first of the five ODI was played yesterday (7th September), where Australia won by 3 wickets thanks to Marnus Labuchagne’s 80 runs inning with Aston Agar (48).
With the help of a magnificent century from Bavuma, South Africa managed to establish a competitive total on a slow surface, but the Australians struggled early in the run-chase. They got into difficulty early on due to their frenzied attitude since they kept losing wickets. Warner walked for a duck, while Marsh was unable to replicate his valor from the T20I series as Rabada nipped him out with a beautiful outswinger.
Green was injured shortly after that when a bouncer working for Rabada punched him in the left ear. At 72/5, the visitors brought in Labuschagne to replace Green as the concussion substitute after losing three more fast wickets. From the beginning, he exuded confidence and continued his grazing runs, and led his team to victory with Agar at the other end.
South Africa didn’t lose much as they were 6th in the ICC ODI Team ranking and still they are there. What they lose is two precious rating points as previously had a 101 rating and now they are at 99 rating points.
With this win, Australia gained a rating point and now they have 119 rating points. Although they won the match, still they are in the second spot in the ICC Team Ranking as on 6th September, Pakistan handily defeated Bangladesh and strengthened their No. 1 spot.
Pakistan, who have played 25 matches in this cycle, possesses 2,997 points with 120 rating points. India sit third in the table with 37 matches played and 114 rating Points.
