IND vs NZ: More Injuries for India, after Hardik, Suryakumar, Ishan Kishan feared injured ahead of India vs New Zealand clash: In a troubling development for Team India ahead of their contest against New Zealand in Dharmshala, senior batter Suryakumar Yadav and wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan have been feared injured. The two batters sustained injuries during the optional net session held in Dharmshala, a night before the IND vs NZ clash.
Suryakumar Yadav, who was anticipated to make his World Cup debut against New Zealand, took a blow on his forearm during the net session as he was having a few throwdowns. The batter was later seen with the ice pack on his forearm, which is a concerning sign for the Indian team.
The incident happened as Suryakumar Yadav was having quick sidearm throwdowns from specialist D Raghavendra when one of the deliveries directed toward him struck his forearm, right above the wrist.
The injury forced Suryakumar Yadav to put an end to his net session and was seen in evident distress after the blow. The team physio and doctor were constantly in touch with the batter as he was applying the ice pack.
Ishan Kishan, on the other side, Ishan Kishan had a bee sting on the back of his head during his net session under the floodlights on October 21. The young gloveman was seen running and jumping in pain after he was struck by a bee.
Now it remains to be seen whether both the aforementioned batters will be fit enough to play in the game against New Zealand in Dharmshala on October 22.
IND vs NZ: Dravid hinted at inclusion of Suryakumar Yadav & Ishan Kishan
Notably, on the eve of the India vs New Zealand clash, Indian head coach Rahul Dravid had hinted towards the possibility of playing Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan against the Kiwis at the HPCA Stadium.
“I mean it is nice to have Ishan and he’s been, like you said rightly, he’s been playing well. He is a left-hander, But again, Surya has also come into some great form against Australia, as we saw him play a couple of fantastic innings. Absolutely fantastic player against spin, as we know; left-arm spin or off spin, or any kind of spin, for that matter. Plus, the role may be for a middle overs role, so we just have to see which one,” said Dravid in the pre-match conference.
He later explained that if the team requires someone at the top or middle-order then the obvious choice would be Ishan Kishan, but if there is someone who can act as enforcer in the lower order then it will be Suryakumar Yadav.
Interestingly, the choice of including Suryakumar Yadav or Ishan Kishan in the Playing 11 gets crucial with the injury to all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Had the all-rounder been fit, there would be no chatter of change in the playing 11, but as he is unavailable for the game, then India will have to rethink of their playing 11.
Notably, Hardik Pandya suffered an ankle injury during India’s last game against Bangladesh in Pune. The all-rounder was immediately withdrawn from the rest of the game and was taken for scans. Later in the day, the BCCI confirmed that Hardik will miss India’s next game against New Zealand due to the injury.
