The domination of India in ODI Cricket in the recent past has been like a fairy tale. The World Cup final was not meant to be our day but the spirit, dedication, hard work, and discipline shown by the players was top notch. We are yet the runner-ups in the ODI CWC but Indian players have made some handsome gains in the latest updated ICC ODI Players rankings.
There are eight Indian players in the top 10 of all the ICC Rankings. Shubman Gill, Virat, and Rohit are in the top-4 batting rankings. Siraj, Shami, Kuldeep, and Bumrah are in the top-10 bowling rankings and Ravindra Jadeja is in the Top-10 allrounder’s Rankings.
Shubman Gill broke Babar Azam’s 937-day top-ranking streak and became the new Number 1 ODI batter just two weeks ago. Gill has successfully maintained the Number 1 ODI batsman rank in the ICC Rankings with 826 rating points. He took just 41 innings to reach the number 1 ODI rank which is the second-fastest Indian record after MS Dhoni’s 39 innings
Babar Azam is second and just two points behind Shubman Gill. He had an average kind of tournament here in India and lost his Number 1 rank on the stage of the World Cup.
Virat Kohli made some huge remarks in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 tournament that resulted in his constantly improving ODI Rankings. Kohli is currently 3rd ranked ODI batsman with 791 rating points and is aiming back to the Number 1 in the ODI format. Rohit Sharma is also not keeping back and climbed two ranks and he is ranked 4th in the current ICC ODI batting rankings.
Mohammad Siraj is the top ranked Indian player when it comes to the Bowling rankings. He sits on the 3rd spot in the list which is led by Keshav Maharaj of South Africa. Keshav Maharaj made some good gains in the World Cup 2023 and is now the Number One-ranked ODI Bowler with 741 rating points.
Kuldeep Yadav slipped down to 7th spot from 4th. Interestingly, along with Maharaj and Kuldeep, there are 2 more spinners in the top 10 ODI bowlers- Adam Zampa (5th Rank) and Rashid Khan (6th rank).
Mohammad Shami came like a havoc this season. He ended the World Cup 2023 with the most wickets and was so close to be the player of the tournament. Owing to his excellent bowling spells in the tournament, he has made his place in the top 10 ODI Bowlers with his friend Jasprit Bumrah, who is ranked 4th in One Day International cricket.
Shakib-al-Hasan is still, by far, the number 1 ODI All-rounder in the latest ODI player rankings. Glenn Maxwell took the wicket of skipper Rohit Sharma in the World Cup final, hence he gains a rank and now placed 5th in the list.
