T20I World Cup: After the conclusion of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Rahul Dravid’s contract had expired, and a couple of IPL franchises had even contacted Dravid to become their coach, but the BCCI instead decided to offer him a contract extension. Along with the 50-year-old, the contracts of the rest of the coaching staff have been extended as well. According to Cricbuzz, their contracts have been extended until the T20I World Cup.
The main reason behind BCCI deciding to continue with Dravid as the head coach of the Men in Blue was to guarantee the continuity of the foundation he had set as a coach over the previous two years, which would otherwise be disturbed under a new coach.
Under Rahul Dravid, Team India became the No. 1 team in all 3 formats of the game, retaining the Border Gavaskar Trophy vs Australia at home, winning the Asia Cup 2023, going to the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, and finishing as the runners-up in the recently concluded ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
Dravid’s next assignment with Team India as their head coach starts with the Tour of South Africa, which includes 3 T20’s, 3 ODI’s, and 2 Test matches in December. The Men in Blue then host England for a five-match test series that starts in the month of January and ends in the first week of March. The final assignment of Rahul Dravid and his coaching staff with the Indian team will be the T20 Cricket World Cup in June, after which their contracts will expire.
