The Strikers advanced to the finals by winning the majority of their games and dominating the league stages. And when it meant most—the night of the final—they were still able to maintain their composure. After winning 11 of 14 games in the group round, they qualified directly for the finals and took the top place in the WBBL 2023 points standings.
They opted to bat first and got off to a decent start, but Brisbane Heat bowlers pulled things back in the second half and restricted the Strikers to a pretty average total. 71 runs in the first 10 overs with just two wickets down but they could only add 54 runs in the next 10 overs and lost 3 wickets leading to a total of 125 runs in 20 overs.
The Brisbane Heat openers started them off well in response, but the Strikers bowlers also accomplished what the Heat bowlers had earlier in the day. After that first partnership, they dramatically reversed course. The strain was advanced by Amanda-Jade Wellington’s economical overs, and McGrath, the captain of the Strikers, took two wickets in quick succession. Amelia Kerr seemed determined, but she didn’t get any help from the other end, resulting in a three-run loss in the Women’s BBL 2023 final.
