Special match for Nathon Lyon as he has achieved the amazing feat of taking 500 test wickets. First match for Mitch Marsh at the venue and his match-winning performance earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ award. Not only he was brutal with the bat, but also got rid of Babar Azam when asked to bowl.
It has been a while since Australia played a test match at Perth but they were quicker to adjust and adapt. Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Australia kept on making runs with the least of the problems by Pakistani Bowlers. Runs were flying on day 1 and Australia posted a huge total of 487 in the first innings. Aamer Jamal went for 111 runs in his 20 overs but the debutant got a debut 6-wicket-haul.
Pakistan also managed to bat over 100 overs but were only able to score 271 runs in their first innings. Skipper Shan Masood was the only player in the Pakistan squad, who looked a bit positive and eager to score runs.
Australia took a commanding lead of 216 runs, which was inevitable given the state of the wicket. Australia put up another impressive display at the batting, further undermining Pakistan. Marsh and Khawaja both scored fifty. Australia called for the declaration after the southpaw was dismissed on 90, giving Pakistan a daunting target of 450.
The Australian bowlers kept the momentum and put the square ablaze. Starc and Hazlewood were unplayable at the top with the new ball and they completely shook the Pakistani batting in and out! Lyon took his 500th Test wicket and the Aussie pacers had a gala time. Pakistan were bowled out for their third-lowest total in Australia
