The International Cricket Council (ICC) updated the ICC ODI Rankings. Pakistan batter Babar Azam has surpassed Shubman Gill to become the new No.1 ranked ODI batter in the game of cricket.
Babar Azam replaced Shubham Gill because the latter lost some valuable points. The Indian batter dropped points because he missed the ODI series against South Africa. BCCI rested the batter for the ongoing series, which has cost him.
Babar Azam is No.1 in the ICC ODI rankings with 824 points to his name. Shubman Gill on the other hand now has just 810 points. Both batters were last seen in action during the ICC World Cup 2023. They both had decent outings and were neck-and-neck with each other.
Shubman Gill during the ICC World Cup surpassed Babar Azam to become the new No.1 batter in the ICC ODI Rankings. The Indian opener ended Pakistan’s batter-long streak of over 950 days. However, now Babar has reclaimed his top spot.
Shubman Gill will have a great chance to replace Babar Azam because Pakistan aren’t scheduled to play any ODI for the next year. India on the other hand will be playing a few games and Gill will have a good opportunity to replace his rival.
Apart from Babar Azam and Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are also in a solid position in the ICC ODI rankings. While Kohli is at No.3 with 775 ratings, Rohit is 4th on the list with 754 points under his belt. David Warner, Daryl Mitchell and Harry Tector are next in the list.
