IND vs ENG 2nd Test: In another injury scare for the Indian team, young opener Shubman Gill has copped a blow on his right index finger owing to which the batter hasn’t come out to the field on day 4 of the ongoing IND vs ENG 2nd test. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the details on Monday.
Gill, who scored a sensational inning of 104 runs, suffered a finger injury while fielding on day 2 of the IND vs ENG test. He, though, batted comfortably in the third innings, which saw him score his 3rd test ton, however, the young batter won’t take the field on day 4.
“Shubman Gill hurt his right index finger while fielding on Day 2. He won’t be taking the field today,” the BCCI said in a post via X.
The extent of the injury is still unknown, however, by the looks of it, it isn’t a threatening one. Shubman Gill didn’t look uncomfortable at all while he was in the middle on day 3 of the test. The batter played 104-run innings with the same bruised finger, so there could be a possibility of only a slight injury.
However, if the injury turns out to be a serious one, then Team India will find themselves in troubled waters. The hosts are already down with the injuries to KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, who were ruled out after the 1st IND vs ENG test in Hyderabad. Furthermore, Virat Kohli for the time being is unavailable and there isn’t any clarity over his return.
For day 4 of the IND vs ENG test, Sarfaraz Khan has replaced Shubman Gill in the field.
