T20 World Cup 2024: West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) revealed the West Indies Squad for the upcoming ICC Tournament, which is scheduled to start on June 02. West Indies and USA are the host nations of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 but most of the matches will be played in West Indies. The Team looks pretty good but some of the experienced players are missed out in the squad.
Rovman Powell will be leading the West Indies Men’s Cricket Team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, he has quite a decent record in T20Is as a skipper but he needs to lead the team from the front. Powell is struggling with the form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 as he has scored 64 runs in the five matches played so far in the tournament.
The Key players like Andre Russell, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran are added to the squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. However, some players like Sunil Narine and Sheldon Cottrell aren’t playing in the tournament, the unavailability of Sunil Narine will be a major drawback for the West Indies as he is in terrific form in the TATA IPL 2024.
Why Sunil Narine Wasn’t Considered in the WI’s T20 World Cup 2024 Squad:
Sunil Narine is playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the TATA IPL 2024, he gave a superb start to the team with his robust batting in the powerplay. Narine has played 10 matches in this edition and scored 269 runs, he is not playing in the T20 World Cup 2024 for West Indies due to some personal reasons.
Shamar Joseph got a maiden call for the T20 World Cup?
The Youngster Shamar Joseph will be playing his first World Cup for West Indies after getting his maiden call in the T20 World Cup 2024 as he has impressed everyone with his excellent bowling skills. Joseph made his test debut earlier this year and played his first test match against Australia, he took seven wickets in the match.
It is a good addition by Wi’s Team Management, he will be the trump card for the West Indies in the T20 World Cup 2024. The Addition of Shamar Joseph will strengthen the bowling unit of the team in the upcoming tournament.
