ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Current Standings of All Teams | T20 World Cup 2024 Points Table after Pakistan vs Canada

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024: Match number 22 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 ended with Pakistan securing a comfortable win over Canada by seven wickets at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium of New York on 11th June. It was yet another low scoring thriller and this win against the Canadians was the first win of the tournament for the Shaheens.

Pakistani skipper Babar Azam won the toss and elected to field first despite witnessing a total getting defended in the previous two matches at this ground but a fresh pitch was curated for this encounter and the Green Shirts wanted to utilize the bowling friendly conditions completely.

Pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi once again didn’t look at his best with the ball and Mohammad Amir from the other end was the one who made full use of the conditions with the new ball as he dismissed Navneet Dhaliwal on the final ball of the third over. Shaheen Afridi finally managed to find some momentum and dismissed Pargat Singh just before the end of the powerplay.

Following the end of the powerplay, Babar introduced Haris Rauf into the attack and he bowled some good looking deliveries and managed to get a couple of scalps as well. Nicholas Kirton was expected to prevent the Canadians from suffering a batting collapse but he got run out and from there on, the Men in Red weren’t able to do much.

Opener Aaron Johnson played a crucial knock of 52 runs and played some really powerful good looking strokes which helped his side to breach the 100 runs mark. In the end, Naseem Shah cleaned him up and Canada were restricted to 106-7 in their 20 overs.

The Green Shirts needed 107 runs for the win and they started the chase on a decent note as the opening duo of Saim Ayub and Mohammad Rizwan added 20 for the first wicket. Saim tried to play some aggressive strokes but gave his wicket away cheaply and following his dismissal, the Babar Azam-led team had a poor end to the power play.

The experienced duo of Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam stitched a crucial stand for the third wicket and Babar played some aggressive strokes but it didn’t materialize as he wanted to. The skipper got dismissed soon as Pakistan needed 24 runs to secure the win but Mohammad Rizwan stayed till the end and brought up his fifty as well.

After Babar’s dismissal, Fakhar came in to bat and was sent back to the pavilion with three runs after which, Usman Khan came on to the crease and hit the winning shot. The only bad part about the Shaheen’s chase was they didn’t finish the runs in 14 overs which was required to help them improve their Net Run Rate

Talking about the Group A points table, Pakistan have moved to the third position with two points in three matches after defeating the North American team. Canada on the other hand have dropped to the fourth position.
