BCCI announces an INR 125 crore award to applaud World T20 Champions India

Not only the players or the millions of Indian spectators who were awaiting this glorious moment went all smiles and all cries on the occasion when the Indian team finally lifted the T20 World Cup at Barbados, but also the BCCI chief went all overflown with tremendous emotions as he took to his X handle to announce a bamboozling INR 125 crore prize money for the World Cup-winning India side.

Often speculated to be one of the richest cricket boards, secretary Jay Shah never seemed to disapprove of it as he made this huge announcement to boost the morale of his players. The ICC has already shown a huge surge in the total awards, as they increased the net prize money of the ICC T20 World Cup from 5.6 million USD to 11.25 million USD in 2024.

The reigning champions have received an award of USD 2.45 million alongside their $31,154 for each match they won, and as the Men in Blue remained unbeaten, they won the prize money in all of their appearances. Not only did India have a huge surge of prize money compared to what England received in 2022, but the runners-up, South Africa, and semi-finalists, Afghanistan and England, were also awarded lump-sum amounts.

“The team has showcased exceptional talent, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and support staff for this outstanding achievement!”

BCCI secretary Jay Shah on his X-handle post had said while lauding the Indian team
