Indian Cricket Team’s young opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has scripted history in Test Cricket. By hitting two huge sixes in the second inning of the ongoing Perth Test-Match versus Australia, the youngster broke the record of hitting the highest number of sixes in Test Cricket’s calendar-year.
Earlier, this record was help by former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum but now Jaiswal has overtaken him. By the end of the 2nd day’s play, the 22-year-old was unbeaten in the middle with a score of 90* runs in 193 deliveries and was standing firm at the crease alongside fellow opener KL Rahul (62 runs in 153 deliveries).
Yashasvi has now overtaken McCullum
Jaiswal has hit a total of 34 huge sixes in the 2024 Calendar year of Test Cricket till now, while Brendon McCullum on the other hand had hit 33 maximums in the calendar-year of the longest format of the game in 2014.
The likes of Ben Stokes (26 sixes in 2022) and Adam Gilchrist (22 sixes in 2006) are also a part of this list at the third and fourth positions respectively. India’s legendary batter Virender Sehwag (22 sixes in 2008) is also a part of the top five and he holds the joint fourth position with Gilchrist.

The batsmen who held the record of getting involved in the biggest opening-partnership for Team India in the history of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy were Akash Chopra and Virender Sehwag who stitched a big partnership of 141 runs in 2003, but now the duo of Jaiswal and Rahul have overtaken both of them. At the time of writing this article, the two have shared a 171 runs partnership with each other and they have become the only Indian batting pair to get involved in the biggest opening-wicket partnership in the history of the BGT.
