IPL 2021: A few days ago, the defending champions Mumbai Indians won their fifth Indian Premier League (IPL) title. Rohit Sharma got his fifth title as a captain and sixth as a player. The former Indian cricket players lauded Rohit Sharma and Mumbai Indians for the win.

However, at the same time, it was being speculated that Virat Kohli should leave the captaincy of Royal Challenger Bangalore. He has got the same platform which Rohit got but he could not manage to win any while the latter got 5 titles.

Rohit Sharma on detailed talks with the PTI also gave his views on the issue. He says, “Lot of people say that I can do it with other franchises also. Firstly, why shall I need to do it with other team? There are certain terms and conditions by which a team goes and I same way I also want to go, both as a player and as a leader.”

“No team can become good overnight. There needs a lot of work behind to become successful. It is just Mumbai Indians do not believe in changing and chopping a lot. Every player including Rohit Sharma was available in 2011 auctions. Just that Mumbai Indians (MI) picked and believed.”

MI Skipper on Trent Boult:

I am happy with the way our team works. They got us New Zealand pacer, Trent Boult. The pacer did wonders for the franchise in 2020. Picking crucial wickets in powerplays is very important and he fulfilled it.

“New Zealand pacer Trent Boult was with DC last year, and with Sunrisers Hyderabad before that. We wanted someone to pick wickets upfront and swing the ball, we got him at the right time.”

“Trent Boult is someone whom we pursuit and I’m proud that we got him.”

It was extremely important for us to be in a happy space. MI did wonders for us providing a space where we can express ourselves. Being in a bio-bubble for 80 days is a big thing. Mumbai Indians didn’t let us feel any claustrophobic during the season. I am happy to be part of the franchise.

Rohit Sharma on Surya Kumar Yadav:

Rohit Sharma also talked about leadership and how he gives players the liberty to express themselves. He cited Surya Kumar Yadav’s example of how composed he was while dealing with Team India’s rejection.

“We were sitting in the team room and I could see how much dejected he was for not getting the national call. I didn’t go but he came to me and said, “Don’t worry I will get over it and win matches for MI.”

“That time I realized he was in the right path not only in terms of IPL but overall career.”
