India vs England: I wish to see Ishant Sharma getting 400 Test wickets: Ravi Ashwin.
India vs England 1st Test: Team India’s spin spearhead Ravichandran Ashwin heaped praise for the speedster Ishant Sharam as he entered the 300 Test wickets club in the first test against England at Chennai. Ashwin feels Ishant’s work ethics over the past 14 years has been exemplary and he wishes to see his fellow team-mate to complete 400 test wickets soon.
Ishant Sharma on Monday becomes the third Indian test pacer to reach 300 wickets and is only behind Kapil Dev (434 wickets) and Zaheer Khan (311) wickets. He is also the most capped player test player in the current Indian lineup.
“Look, Ishant has been one of the most hard-working cricketers, that I have seen in that Indian team dressing room.
“Ishant has worked really hard over a period of 14 years in his cricketing career. First of all, being a tall guy like him who is 6ft 4 inches requires a lot of facets to be managed throughout the career,” Ravi Ashwin said.
In the coming Test games, Ishant will become the second pacer for India to feature in 100 Tests, he is just two short.
“Ishant, who went to Australia and got Ricky Ponting out (in 2007-08), and then has gone through so many other tours, had his fair share of injuries, for a fast bowler to get close to 100 Tests in India is not a joke and it is fantastic fantastic achievement,” said the wily off-spinner.
“I can keep complimenting him over and over again because he is a really hardworking guy. I wish he gets 400 soon or probably 500, which should be the roadmap for the coming young bowlers.”
What makes Ishant a special human being?
“If I had to say, he is a truly a genuine person and his smile is the biggest plus. Even if he is tried and some sort of going through issues, he will smile.”
“Today, I jokingly said to him that he won’t get to bowl today. He just smiled and said that’s ok because he was tired and he is the guy with the funky streak.”
