India vs England: Rohit Sharma shuts the discussion around the pitches to be used in Motera Stadium.

India vs England: Team India’s senior cricketer, Rohit Sharma defends in the discussion around the pitches begin used in the test games in India. The opener said it the surface at Motera behaves much like the previous one in Chennai, it would neither be a surprise nor disappointment.

Sharma who smacked 161 in the second game at Chennai’s rank turner said that there is nothing wrong in taking the advantage of the home conditions. That is why there are home and away test matches. We will definitely exploit the home conditions and argued that both teams have the opportunity to use the conditions on offer.

The rank turner at Chennai helped the spinner from both sides and Indian spinners took the advantage much better than the England spinners. Out of 20 wickets in the second test at Chennai, Indian spinners collected 15 wickets.

“…The pitch is the same for both the teams, so I don’t know why this topic is raised every time. Both the teams play on the same pitch. People say pitches shouldn’t be like this or that but for years Indian pitches are made like this only,” Rohit said during a virtual press conference. “I don’t think there need to be any changes. Every team takes advantage of their home conditions.”

India and England are both in the fray of qualifying for the final berth of ICC WOrld Test CHampionship. The outcome of this series will be decided which team would compete against New Zealand in the finals.

Pink Ball Test Pitch:

The pitches used in the Day/Night test have a 6mm grass cover but the convention is not followed here in Motera. The surface will aid spinners more than the pacers. And India can take good advantage of the surface used.

“I don’t see anything changing in the pitch from what we played in the second Test. It’s more or less going to be on the same page. It’s going to be turning as well and we are preparing according to that,” Rohit said.

“When we tour outside India, the pitches are not according to our needs. They make pitches on the basis of what suits the home team best. So why will we lose that advantage while playing in India? That is why the test games are called a home game and away games. If you have any issues with the pitches then go and ask ICC to make a regulation on that.”

India and England will begin the pink ball test at newly refurbished Sardar Patel Stadium on 24th February.
