ICC World Test Championship 2021: ICC Planning to move ICC World Test Championship 2021 from Lords

ICC World Test Championship 2021: ICC Planning to move ICC World Test Championship 2021 from Lords.

ICC World Test Championship 2021: As the cricket fans and supporters across the globe brace themselves up for the iconic clash between India and New Zealand on June 18th at Lords, it is learnt that ICC is planning to move the inaugural Test Championship out of Lords.

Home of Cricket ‘Lords’ was scheduled to host the final of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship 2021 when ICC announced the tournament. However, the ongoing pandemic has pushed ICC to reverse its decision and choose other venues for the final.

“The venue will be announced soon. Lords is not the venue that ICC is planning for. ICC will be advised by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and its own medical health professionals to decide on the venue for the final. There could be a case of creating a similar bio-secure bubble as the ECB had for the last home summer,” an ICC source told Times of India.

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) last summer successfully hosted Pakistan, West Indies and Australia in Southampton and Manchester. Both the cricket grounds have world-class facilities of lodging inside the complex. It is interesting to note that England will be hosting India in August in five different venues.

The fourteenth edition of the Indian Premier League is expected to begin on 09th April while the final may take place on 30th May. After IPL, Indian players will have ample time to prepare for the World Test Championship in England.

Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai and Ahmedabad are the six venues for IPL and the franchise owners have been given the tentative dates of IPL opener by the BCCI. All the managements will be planning to set up their bases and bio-bubble in the designated venues.
