India vs England 5th T20I: Team India fined a 40 per-cent match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate.

India vs England 5th T20I: Virat Kohli and Co. after the 36 runs triumph were penalised a 40 per-cent match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate in the 5th T20I against England.

The match played in Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad saw an outstanding display of grit and support as India won the five-game T20I series as well as the game by 36 runs.

ICC Elite Panel of Referee Javagal Shreenath after finding Team India guilty of the offence imposed the sanctions. According to him, the outfit in blues were two overs short of the given time frame.

“In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time,” the ICC said in a statement.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli accepted the proposed sanctions by Match Referee Javagal Shreenath, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

All three umpires, on-field umpires Nitin Menon and Anil Chaudhary while third umpire KN Ananthapadmanabhan levelled the charges.

This is not the first time in the five-game T20I series when the teams were penalised for the proposed offence. Prior to the fifth T20I, England were charged a 20 per-cent match fee as they fell one over short in the 4th T20I while India were fined a 20 per-cent match fee in the second T20I.

India won the T20I series by 3-2 after slipping down in the first game. Both England and India will now head for the three games ODI series in Pune, starting 23rd March.
