Vivo IPL 2021 MI vs RCB: The curse of losing the first game of the season remains with defending champions Mumbai Indians as they lost the opening encounter to Royal Challengers Bangalore on 09th April 2021. However, Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma feels they might have lost the first game but winning the title is their utmost priority.
Royal Challengers Bangalore thrashed Mumbai Indians by two wickets as the game became an absolute nail bitter. Young speedster Harshal Patel picked five wickets and proved lethal in the death overs and to finish the things AB de Villiers showed a masterclass and sealed the game.
“Winning the championship is important. I guess, Not the first game. It was a great fight at the end. Both the teams were in the game till last over,” said Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians skipper.
Rohit Sharma said they were 20 runs short at the end after getting a good start in the first 10 overs. RCB bowlers picked wickets in the regular intervals and restricted Mumbai Indians to 159 runs in the 20 overs.
“I thought we were 20 runs short with the kind of start we got. We made some mistakes in the first game, bound to happen,” said Rohit Sharma in the post-match presentation.
South African young pacer Macro Jansen made his debut for Mumbai Indians and picked two wickets in the game. He even bowled the last over and took the game to the last ball when RCB needed 1 run to win.
“Macro Jansen a talent we have identified to bowl in any situation. We wanted to get wickets when AB and Christian were batting, which is why we went with Bumrah and Boult, unfortunately, it didn’t work.”
