Vivo IPL 2021 MI vs SRH: Defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) once again defended a low scoring total at Chennai as they defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 13 runs last night. Yet another time the death bowling specialist duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult proved why they are the best in the business as they pulled back the victory and topped the points table.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) middle-order woes continues despite making four changes in the playing11. David Warner brought in Virat Singh, Abhishek Sharma, Khaleel Ahmad and Mujeeb Ur Rahman to the side in the game against Mumbai Indians (MI) however this was not enough.
SRH chasing 151 runs got a flying start after English batsman Jonny Bairstow started to flex his arms. In the six overs of the powerplay, SRH scored 60 runs without any losses.
The fine opening pair of Jonny Bairstow and David Warner was broken by Krunal Pandya as Bairstow got hit wicket trying to play shots on backfoot. Bairstow (43 off 22) returned after giving SRH a scintillating start.
Mumbai Indians bowlers started to build pressure on SRH with the departure of Bairstow. The new men-in Manish Pandey was sent back in no time by Rahul Chahar in the 9th over.
Although David Warner wanted to play deep and win the game for SRH but Hardik Pandya’s rocket arm throw cost them the wicket of the skipper.
Warner got run-out after scoring 36 from 34 with two fours and two sixes. SRH were reduced to 90-3 from 66-0 in 11 overs.
In the end, all the last hopes were with all-rounder Vijay Shankar who had a good game. With the ball, he picked two wickets while with the bat he scored 25 balls 28.
Mumbai Indians bowled out Sunrisers Hyderabad in 137 runs with pacer Trent Boult and spinner Rahul Chahar picking three wickets apiece. While Krunal Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah got one-one wicket. Mumbai Indians won the game by 13 runs.
For Mumbai Indians, skipper Rohit Sharma took the advantage of the field restrictions and scored 55 runs in the powerplays. The skipper amassed 32 runs from 25 balls before getting caught to Virat Singh off Vijay Shankar.
Quinton de Kock scored a sensible 40 runs in 39 deliveries with five boundaries. To finish the innings well, all-rounder Kieron Pollard did what he has done for Mumbai Indians (MI) over these past years. Pollard smacked a quickfire 35 from 22 deliveries which include three towering sixes and a boundary.
For SRH, Vijay Shankar and Mujeeb Ur Rahman got two wickets while speedster Khaleel Ahmad picked one.
