Vivo IPL 2021: Andrew Tye questions how IPL franchises are spending so much money amidst the Covid-19 crisis in India.
Vivo IPL 2021: Rajasthan Royals (RR) recruit Andrew Tye who recently flew back Australia leaving the Indian T20 League midway due to the alarming Covid-19 situation in India wondered how companies and the franchises are spending an insane sum to the league when the country is facing severe health crisis.
The Australian however stated that the league should go on if it’s giving happiness and helping the people relieving stress during these testing times.
“Looking at it from an Indian point of view, how are these companies and franchises spending so much money, and the government, on the IPL when there’s people not being able to get accepted into hospital?
“If sport can continue and be one of those avenues to relieve stress or give a glimmer of hope that the world is OK and there is light at the end of the tunnel, I think it should go ahead,” Tye was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.
Tye said that he respects and values everyone’s point of view and there could be various angles involved.
“But I know that’s not everyone’s feelings and I completely respect everyone’s views from all angles.”
He further said that the players are right now “completely safe” inside the bio-bubbles but questions, “is it going to be safe in the future”?
The 34-years old Australian cricketer went back home with an early morning flight of 4 AM as informed by Rajasthan Royals (RR) Director of Cricket Operations Kumar Sangakkara. He feared “getting locked out” of his own country due to the surge in the Covid-19 crisis in India.
“There was a number of reasons, but the main one was with the situation that has started to happen back home in Perth with a lot of cases in hotel quarantine coming out of India,” Tye told ‘SEN radio’ from Doha on Monday.
Tye was recruited by Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2021 auction with a contract worth INR 1 Crore however he had not got a single game to play.
Andrew Tye was accompanied by his two other Australian mates and RCB recruit Adam Zampa and Kane Richardson who together withdrew their names from the remainder of IPL 2021.
