Vivo IPL 2021: Chennai Super Kings reluctant to play their next game against Rajasthan Royals.
Vivo IPL 2021: After the news of two non-playing CSK members have tested covid-positive, the Indian T20 League is under serious cramp. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Monday informed the BCCI that they will not be stepping into the field for the game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Wednesday in Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.
The franchise further added that the players will only return to the field once all the three covid reports come negative in the course of six days. According to the IPL protocols, players or members have to undergo six days quarantine and undergo Covid-19 tests on day one, three and six.
However, this decision of CSK will only accumulate the woes for BCCI to reschedule the fixtures. CSK are scheduled to play against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on May 5 which according to them will not happen while the next fixture of CSK is against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 07 which unfortunately falls under this six days isolation period.
Earlier, two KKR players – spinner Varun Chakravarthy and medium-pacer Sandeep Warrier- were tested covid positive following which the BCCI had to postpone the last game between KKR and RCB.
“The coach is asymptomatic. However, as per the BCCI’s Covid protocols, everybody who has come in contact with him will have to undergo a six-day quarantine. We can’t play our next game (against Rajasthan Royals). The BCCI knows about the testing protocols and how many tests need to become negative before an all-clear is given. We have communicated it to the BCCI. They will have to reschedule the game between CSK and Rajasthan Royals,” a CSK official told The Indian Express.
CSK’s bowling coach L Balaji who is tested covid positive was part of the dressing room in the game between Mumbai and Chennai. He also had a bowlers meeting before the same game and this also makes Mumbai Indians players vulnerable to the virus.
Soon after the news broke out of several members testing covid-positive inside the bio-bubble though there was no breach of the security, BCCI officials have been finding ways to move forward. The top officials of the board said that they are not looking for the cancellation of the tournament.
