Vivo IPL 2021 to resume in UAE in September-October.
Vivo IPL 2021: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced that the remaining 31 games of the Vivo IPL 2021 will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla announced the news soon after the wrap of the Special General Meeting (SGM). The meeting was held virtually due to a challenging time in the country and all the members of the meeting unanimously agreed to resume the suspended Vivo IPL in UAE.
The Dream11 IPL 2020 was conducted in UAE successfully where Mumbai Indians (MI) emerged as the winner of the tournament for the record fifth time. The matches were held on three grounds namely Sharjah, Dubai International and Abu Dhabi.
The Indian board has also revealed that the September-October window is being targeted for the resumption of the elite Indian competition.
“One of the biggest reasons for conducting the tournament in the UAE is that it can be kept to three grounds — Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi — and there is no air travel,” said Rajeev Shukla.
“In UAE, all of them were in one bubble from start to finish while in India, each team was travelling to three bubbles. Most of the positive cases emerged after bubble travel, “he added.
As per the sources, September 15 is the tentative date to begin the action while the whole tournament may get finished on October 15.
Earlier, the Vivo IPL 2021 was abruptly suspended by the BCCI after several IPL franchises recorded covid positive cases inside the bio-bubble despite there was no breach of the protocols and other norms.
The meeting also asked the office bearers to seek an extension of time from the ICC to take the best possible stance on the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
