The World Test Championship can help revive Test Cricket, says Cheteshwar Pujara

The World Test Championship can help revive Test Cricket, says Cheteshwar Pujara.

Senior Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara feels that the ICC World Test Championship title can help save the longest and the most important format of cricket from being ignored by the youngsters.

India will take on New Zealand in the final clash of the ICC World Test Championship 2019-21 at Ageas Bowl Southampton and Cheteshwar Pujara will play his part for India.

Pujara further said that it is the highest honour of Test Cricket and he is really excited to play that final.

“Yes of course, Test Cricket needs to survive and with this WTC Final, it will definitely help,” said Pujara.

“If we win, more Indian youngsters will come and hope to play test cricket. And overall across the globe, Test Cricket needs to survive and that is a very good way to do that.”

The Indian Number 3 in the Test feels that all this what the Indian side has achieved is the hard work put-in by the cricketers in the past couple of years.

“As a team we have worked hard over a period of time. You have to win so many series away and at home. To be at top, it requires a lot of hard work. It is like the World Cup Final in any other format.”

The 33-years old cricketer admits that their opponents, New Zealand, will have a slight edge over them. New Zealand will advance to the final with two-game practice against England while India just had one Test Match Simulation.

“Well, it is (advantage to the Kiwis). But this is something we can’t control. It’s been a challenging time all over the world because of the pandemic. You can’t have all the luxuries of having extra time for preparations,” said the batsman.

“The game is still going on, that’s the most important part. For all of us, we are playing the final which is very important. Even if preparation time is less, just maybe it’s little bit disadvantage for us but if you are ready for the challenge, even in not favourable conditions, you still want to do well,” added Cheteshwar Pujara.
