Kashmir Premier League (KPL) in danger, BCCI asks ICC not to recognise it.
The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB’s) Kashmir Premier League (KPL) has now been taken to the International Cricket Council (ICC) as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wants the global body not to recognise the T20 league. The T20 league is all set to get underway on August 6 in Muzaffarabad.
Former Pakistani Cricketers and current active cricketers will take part in the competition. The likes of Shahid Afridi, Shadab Khan, Imad Wasim and a couple of other cricketers will lead their respective teams.
The Indian cricket board has approached the ICC for not recognising the Kashmir Premier League as it is based on the issue of Kashmir, which is still a disputed territory. Both India and Pakistan, time and time again have been involved in wars and are at loggerheads in terms of the Kashmir issue since 1947. Moreover, the cricket league seems more like a political agenda.
Due to the conflict between the two nations, India and Pakistan have not played a single bilateral series since 2013.
It is noteworthy that, the PCB has criticised the BCCI for pressurising and threatening the overseas cricketers not to take part in the Kashmir Premier League. The case came up on social media after former South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs stated that the Indian board has threatened him. A couple of other former cricketers have also pulled out of the tournament as they want to take part in sports activities in India.

After Gibbs statement on BCCI, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) came into action and lashes out on their Indian counterparts for bringing the political conflict to the game of cricket. PCB further accused BCCI of disrespecting the spirit of cricket which is against the preamble.
“The PCB considers that the BCCI has brought the game into disrepute by issuing warnings to multiple ICC Members to stop their retired cricketers from featuring in the Kashmir Premier League, further threatening they will not be allowed entry into India for cricket-related work,” the PCB was quoted as saying in a statement.
“Such conduct from the BCCI is completely unacceptable, against the preamble of the Spirit of Cricket and sets a dangerous precedence, which can neither be tolerated nor ignored. The PCB will raise this matter at the appropriate ICC forum and also reserves the right to take any further action that is available to us within the ICC charter,” the statement added.
