SWOT analysis of Australia squad for the T20 World Cup 2021

SWOT analysis of Australia: Ever since the ICC announced the dates and schedule for the upcoming T20 World Cup, the hype around it is constantly getting muscular with each passing day. The cricket watching audience has been eagerly waiting for the competition to begin and see their favourites in the action for the coveted trophy. The article down below will discuss the SWOT (Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis of the Australian squad.

The Aussie cricket board is the second one to announce its squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021. Earlier, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) revealed its squad. The early revelation of the squad has been a forceful act of the global pandemic and the restrictions. Multiple travel restrictions between the countries have forced the cricket boards to announce squads almost two months prior to the start of the tournament.

Here is complete Australia’s Squad for the T20 World Cup 2021: Aaron Finch (capt), Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Marsh, Mitchell Swepson, Glenn Maxwell, Kane Richardson, Steve Smith, Ashton Agar, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade,  Josh Inglis, David Warner, Adam Zampa.

SWOT analysis of Australia squad for the T20 World Cup 2021:

Strength:

The Kangaroos have a formidable bowling attack with the likes of Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and a few others. To be precise the pace bowling of the team is extremely powerful and is capable of destroying any unit under any circumstances.

All the bowlers can extract swing from the surface and also have the mettle to suppress the opposition with their sheer discipline of bowling. The added slower balls and bouncers have bolstered their armoury which makes them one of the deadliest pace attacks in world cricket.

Moreover, the Australian top order is also packed with quality cricketers. Aaron Finch, David Warner, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell can all outperform any given side on their day. All the batters have fantastic T20I records under their belts and can overturn the game at any moment.

Weaknesses:

It may not be regarded as a weakness of the Australian squad, but when compared to their top order and bowling attack, the middle order of Australia lacks certain discipline. Consistency will be a major concern for the middle order.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade prefers to perform at the top order, but with the presence of David Warner in the squad it will be impossible for him to get a place in the top order. Wade will be pushed to the middle order where he hasn’t found much success in his T20I career.

Marcus Stoinis has shown his prowess in uncomfortable situations, but his inconsistent approach will also be a worrying fact for the Australian management.

Opportunities:

Although Australians have ruled ODI and Test cricket for years, their progress in the shortest format still has miles to go. The Kangaroos have five world cup titles in the One Day Internationals, however, the yellow brigade is yet to lift the Twenty20 Internationals glory.

The upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 will be a good chance for them as they have all their bases covered. Australia has a quality top order, a decent middle order and when it comes to bowling they are simply outstanding in it.

Moreover, the presence of Australian’s in the IPL 2021 will aid them to access the surface well and plan their movements ahead accordingly. Smith, Stoinis, Maxwell, Josh Hazlewood, and David Warner will feature in the IPL 2021 for their respective franchises.

Threats:

The Australian skipper Aaron Finch and Steve Smith have recently recovered from their respective injuries and the management will have to make sure that the two do not flare any niggles under the hot sun in the UAE during the World Cup 2021.

Furthermore, Australia is placed alongside England, South Africa and West Indies in Group 1. All four teams are the best when it comes to T20I cricket. England is ranked one in the T20I rankings, South Africa is placed higher than Australia in the ranking while West Indies brings the unpredictable storm in the T20I cricket.

Not just Australia, each team in Group 1 will have to be mindful of their opponents and field their best side to bring out their supreme performances in the matches.
