England’s Joe Root eyeing maiden IPL entry next year in IPL 2022.

IPL 2022: English red-ball skipper Joe Root is reportedly eyeing to make his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut in the next season by pushing his hat in the auction table for the second time.

Root is considered as one of the modern-day greats of cricket, however, the flamboyant batter is yet to announce his arrival in the Indian Premier League (IPL). With IPL expanding to 10 teams from the existing pool of eight, Joe Root has a fair chance to get landed in a franchise in the mega auction.

It is noteworthy that Root registered for the 2018 IPL auctions, but the cricketer went unsold and since then he hasn’t put his name in the lot.

According to the report published in ‘The Telegraph’ Root is gearing up to enter the most competitive T20 league of the world in order to boost his chances for the T20 World Cup next year.

The Indian cricket board has already confirmed the expansion of the lucrative T20 league to give ample opportunities for growing young talent from all around the world, especially from India. The two new teams joining the IPL will be keen on acquiring experienced players and Joe Root’s calibre and stature in the World Cricket will definitely attract the bidders.

Root during the last IPL auctions declared that he would love to be a part of the tournament even though he refrained from entering the auction table in 2021.

“At some point of my career, I am desperate to be a part of an IPL season. Hopefully, a few more beyond that as well. It is something I would love to experience, and love to be a part of,” Said Joe Root.

The national duties for England blocked the way of Root to enter the IPL 2021 auction.

“With the amount of international cricket, and Test cricket in particular this year, didn’t feel like it was the right time (to enter the auction),” added Root.

Root, 30-years old, hasn’t featured in any T20I fixture for England since May 2019. Moreover, the cricketer is also not a part of the England squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

The England test mainstay will be gearing up to lead his side in the Ashes 2021-22, scheduled in Australia.
