Ravi Shastri likely to join an IPL franchise or commentary panel after his terms as Indian head coach

Ravi Shastri can take up the coaching duties of an IPL franchise or can land up being a commentator once again.

Ravi Shastri likely to join an IPL franchise or commentary panel after his terms as Indian head coach.

India’s senior men’s cricket team will see a change in the coaching department as current head coach Ravi Shastri is all but has confirmed to leave the role after India’s T20 World Cup 2021 campaign. Shastri along with the bowling coach and batting coach of the Indian team will move out of the team and a new set of coaches will be appointed by the BCCI for which the process has begun.

The Indian cricket board has invited applications for the head coach’s role along with a few other roles in the management setup of team India. If the reports are to be believed, these are just a formality as BCCI has approached former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid to take team India’s charge after Shastri’s exit and to everyone’s surprise, Dravid has accepted the proposal.

The BCCI will pay Rahul Dravid as many as INR 10 Crores for his duties which will remain until 2023. Under Dravid India will compete in ICC T20 World Cup 2022, 2023 ODI World Cup and ICC World Test Championship 2023.

BCCI has also invited applications for the roles of head of NCA, which is currently led by Rahul Dravid.

After his exit from team India’s coaching role, Ravi Shastri is highly likely to take up either a coaching role of any IPL franchise or could also end up being in the commentary panel.

With two new franchises joining the cash-rich league, Shastri can easily get a coaching role, if he opts for it. On the other hand, the broadcasters will be keen to have Shastri on board for the commentary.

There is no cricket fan in the world who doesn’t remember his top-class commentary during the 2011 World Cup Final, which India won. Those who watched the marquee clash would never forget his voice as he made India’s World Cup-winning moment even more special with his spot-on commentary.

“He’ll be selective. He’ll be open to working with an IPL franchise. Year-round travel is something he would like to avoid now,” say those who have his ear.

Should the former India cricketer want to come back to commentary, industry executives say: “he’ll be welcomed with a red carpet. Tell me a voice that is more identifiable than his.”
