BCCI contemplating a full-fledged women’s Indian Premier League (IPL): Reports.

Soon after the completion of the fourteenth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the BCCI is heading forth with the arrangement of the upcoming season of the gala tournament. The IPL 2022 is going to be a huge event as two new IPL teams have joined the eight existing teams and the mega auction is lined up ahead for the franchises.

The Indian cricket board has been proactive in engaging the IPL fans even during off-seasons, as well. Amidst all the talks around IPL 2022 Mega Auction and two new IPL teams, the reports suggest that the BCCI is planning to organise a full-fledged women’s IPL in the coming year.

If the reports are to be believed, the richest cricket board is now contemplating the Women’s IPL after the gigantic success of the Men’s IPL over these years.

“With the tournament all set to return home in 2022, a homecoming of sorts post-Covid, it is only expected to get bigger and better. What will also add to it is the start of the women’s IPL in the not too distant future. If BCCI’s plans all fall in place, we will soon see a women’s tournament with four to five franchise teams, each sold for INR 1,000 crore,” read a report in the Open.

“While the values are less, it will help make the game more inclusive and all encompassing. In sum, IPL is what will whet India’s business appetite in the next few years with the best in the business investing in and feeding off it,” it read further.

As of now, the so-called Women’s IPL has been conducted three times. In the 2018 edition, just a one-off match was held between the two sides while in 2019 and 2020 a round-robin contest was put in place by the BCCI for three teams. The 2021 edition’s Women’s IPL couldn’t be organised due to the restrictions posed by the covid pandemic.

The upcoming Men’s IPL edition is expected to be held in India. The chances of IPL being hosted in India are getting higher with each passing day as the covid situation is getting better and better. The board is also planning for the return of fans back into the stadiums to cheer for their favourite cricketer.
