IPL 2022: David Warner opens up on his IPL 2021 campaign with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

David Warner opens up on his IPL 2021 campaign with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

IPL 2022: Australian opening batsman David Warner faced a forgetful outing in the recently held season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Not only he was getting poor scores, but Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) management also stripped him off from the captaincy and then later went on to drop him from playing11 as well.

The cricketer who took SRH to their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title back in 2016 was sidelined by the management after a few misfiled attempts. The franchise gave Warner another chance to make an impactful performance in the second leg of the IPL, however, Warner was unsuccessful in it and was later completely dropped from the team.

In his recent conversation with Economic Times, Warner said that it hurts when you are removed from the team and stripped of the captaincy, without providing any genuine reasons.

“When you are dropped from the team you have loved the most for years without any real fault of yours and stripped of captaincy without being given a reason, it hurts. At the same time there are no complaints. The fans in India have always been there for me and it is for them that you play. We play to entertain. We play to push for excellence,” said David Warner, who was in fine form during the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

The Aussie cricketer was adjudged as the Player of the tournament for his brilliant batting. He became the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament and played crucial knocks during the semi-final and final to take his side, Australia, to their maiden T20 World Cup title win.

He further added that he was training hard to make things go his way, but wasn’t getting enough game time to get accustomed to the situations during the IPL.

“Whatever may have been the reason for me not finding a spot in an IPL team, I can tell you I was training the hardest I ever did. I didn’t not miss a single day. I was batting extremely well in the nets and it was only a matter of time before it all started to work out,” the 35-year old said.

David Warner is highly unlikely to get retained by SRH once again in the coming mega auctions, but it didn’t matter a lot as Warner will anyway find a new buyer owing to his sensational records.

“So yes, while it hurt, I knew I will have another opportunity. Sport is a great leveller and if you are true to the sport and keep working hard, you will always have a second chance. I just wanted to keep working the hardest and stay true. I am glad it worked out for me,” said Warner.
