India vs New Zealand: Jharkhand advocate file PIL to postpone 2nd T20I between India and New Zealand

India vs New Zealand: The second T20I match between India and New Zealand that is all set to be played in Ranchi’s JSCA Stadium on 19th November could be postponed if Jharkhand High Court puts a stay on the match. As per the reports, Dheeraj Kumar, an advocate, has filed a petition for the postponement of the clash.

Kumar in his PIL says the T20I match doesn’t go as per the rules of the government. He has raised questions over the special exemptions granted to JSCA Stadium officials to operate on 100 per cent capacity during the international match.

He further said that either the match should be postponed or the stadium should be asked to operate on 50 per cent crowd capacity, similar to the other public gathering places.

Jharkhand government has ordered temples, courts and other offices to operate on 50 per cent occupancy owing to the issues related to covid-19.

Notably, the stadium was earlier permitted to run with a 50 per cent crowd, however, the decision was soon reversed as the government gave a green signal for a houseful match.

Team India is currently leading in the three matches T20I series with 1-0 after the win from the last match in Jaipur. Rohit Sharma and Co registered a good win to start the series against the kiwis by five wickets.

Though it was a complete team effort, notable performances from India were Rohit Sharma (48 runs), Suryakumar Yadav (62 runs), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2 wickets) and R Ashwin (2 wickets).

The second match will be played in Jharkhand’s JSCA Stadium on 19th November while the final T20I match will be held in Kolkata’s Eden Garden on 21st November.

After the completion of the T20I series, India will host New Zealand for two games Test series in Kanpur and Mumbai.
