BCCI granted final clearance to CVC Capitals, Ahmedabad IPL team’s owner to operate the franchise: In a tremendous development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday (10th Jan) granted approval to the Irelia Company CVC Capitals Partners, the owners of the new Ahmedabad based IPL team, to begin its operation.
With the green signal, Ahmedabad gets a nod to participate in the upcoming IPL 2022. The franchise can now process its development and further set up a proper base in India.
It is important to note that the owners of the Ahmedabad IPL team, CVC Capitals Partners, came amidst the concerns over its off-shore investments in massive betting companies.
The Irelia Company bagged the operational rights of the Ahmedabad based IPL team by shelling out a mammoth INR 5,625 Crores during the team auction, last year in Dubai.
The BCCI formed a panel of legal bigwigs to address the issue. The three-member external panel headed by retired Supreme Court Judge, Justice KS Radhakrishnan, on 26th December, reached the conclusion to give a clearance to the company to run the Ahmedabad based IPL franchise.

Moving ahead with the decision, the BCCI on January 10th handed over the Letter of Intent (LOI) following weeks of tussle and scrutiny.
The upcoming developments for Ahmedabad will be significant as the franchise will be officially announcing its support staff members which include the likes of head coach, Director, Mentor etc.
If the reports are to be believed, Gary Kirsten, former world cup winning coach, is roped in as the mentor of the side. Former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra is likely to join the franchise as the head coach while former England batter Vikram Solanki has reportedly joined the franchise as the Director of Cricket Operations.
However, we will have to wait for the official statements from the franchise.
