Jay Shah confirm IPL 2022 Dates, Venues to be finalised before the mega auction

Jay Shah confirm IPL 2022 Dates, Venues to be finalised before the mega auction: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has announced that the upcoming Tata IPL 2022 will kickstart somewhere in the last week of March while the tournament will run until the end of May.

Mr Shah further informed that the IPL 2022 will most likely be played in India, however, the board will prepare the alternate plan in order to ensure the safety of all the stakeholders due to the various covid variants.

“I am delighted to confirm that the 15th season of the IPL will start in the last week of March and will run until May end. A majority of the team owners expressed their wish that the tournament be held in India,” news agency ANI quoted Shah as saying.

Lucknow Supergiant and Ahmedabad (still unnamed), the two new franchises will join the other existing eight in the Tata IPL 2022 to make the tournament more interesting and competative.

“The BCCI was always keen on staging the 2022 edition that will see two new teams – Ahmedabad and Lucknow – in India. I can tell you that we will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that IPL stays in India,” he added.

The BCCI secretary further informed that the IPL 2022 venues will be finalised before the start of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, which is scheduled on 12th and 13th February in Bangalore.

“Mega IPL auction will take place on 12 and 13 February and we will lock in venues before that,” said Shah.

It must be noted that BCCI has always guaranteed the safety of all the stakeholders including the players and support staff. Plan B for hosting the cash-rich tournament will be prepared beforehand to make a smooth transition, in case any disruption is caused.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has already placed its hat in the ring for hosting the IPL 2022 in South Africa. The Protea cricket board believe that the cost of conducting IPL 2022 in South Africa will be way cheaper than in the UAE.

“Some of the owners prefer 27 March start but India play their last international game against Sri Lanka, a T20I at Lucknow on 18 March, and then you need a 14-day gap as per Lodha rule which is why 2 April is also an option for start date,” reported the news agency, quoting a BCCI official.
